Farm Introduction

Luis Anibal's family owned farm - Finca Villa Betulia is located in Acevedo,southern Huila. Coffee grown here is on soil made up of volcanic ashes and clay foam. Though not as high an altitude as other farms in Huila, day temperatures at Finca Villa Betulia are slightly lower than average, leading to a slow coffee cherry maturation that increases sugar content in the fruit and a sweeter cup profile-a similar effect that higher altitudes have. Luis has been growing coffee for over 30 years now and in that time has had an almost obsessive approach to acquiring diversity in his coffee varietals, Luis now grows over 35 different varieties on his farm! Luis and Cofinet have worked closely together to develop innovative processing techniques that differ from the ordinary"norms"of a lot of growers in chasing an enhanced profle of sweetness and clarity.

Intag includes one of the areas with the highest biodiversity on earth. It harbors numerous endangered species, including the spectacled bear and the jaguar. Intag is approximately 1800 meters above sea level and the soil is deep volcanic from the dormant Cotacachi Volcano which overlooks the canton .

Parts of the Intag region are sub-tropical rainforests in the Andes. Including the Intag river, there are other rivers and streams in the mountains providing ample water for coffee processing.
